SURFERS PARADISE ROWING CLUB is a new club reformed & resurrected after the 1974 flood out of the so called 'ashes' of the washed away 'Eagles' rowing club located to the east side of the Isle of Capri bridge.
Our club was built on the existing site in 1997 by a small core of dedicated hard working former rowers & members by selling chook raffles & meat trays over many Fridays @ the local pub. It has grown from owning 1 quad to its current size in 13 years.
With gaining the support & backing of GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY
we are now GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY SURFERS PARADISE ROWING CLUB
a new revitalised & growing GUSPRC
GUSPRC is unusual because 95% of its members are new to the sport - only 5% are old school rowers! In addition 75% of the membership are female rowers as a direct result this club is unique as it is not hampered by tradition (or preconceived ideas) and has developed a multi tasking capability (and approach to development within the sport of rowing) that is innovative and sometimes challenging to some rowers & members who hold dear traditional ideas.
GUSPRC is a progressive club that has an abiding interest & love for all things rowing and the development of the sport in general.
We all firmly believe that rowing to grow as a sport generally and for the individual it must be fun & enjoyed by all!
GUSPRC believes that competition and the competitive spirit is great however it should be appreciated, experienced & relished for the enjoyment & excitement it provides while not losing siight of why we participate in the sport!
When on the line & thru a race we believe in winning but we at GUSPRC believe that all events should not lose track of the fact that this is a sport to be enjoyed at whatever level (or area) that an individual participates or competes in.
