SURFERS PARADISE ROWING CLUB RULES   2010 - 11
MEMBER CONDUCT
  1. Juniors and beginners are only allowed on the water when supervised or coached.
  2. All members are required to assist with the running of the shed and participate in regular monthly activities i.e. shed duty, fund raising, shed maintenance, shed cleaning, boat maintenance, coaching.
  3. The shed is a non-smoking, non-drinking environment, except for committee approved occasions.
  4. All members are to be registered with Rowing Queensland.
  5. If you cannot swim or suffer from a medical condition that may jeopardise your well being while rowing, learning to row, training or racing then it is the members responsibility to advise the club captain, the coach and other crew members so that adequate safety measures and procedures can be put in place.
  6. A member with a medical condition that may jeopardise their wellbeing while rowing, learning to row, training, coaching or racing agrees to provide a current medical clearance to the club - to be held & noted by the executive, relevant coaches, crew members & club captain.
  7. Any required medical clearance is to be updated annually in order to reinstate membership.
  8. When a medical clearance is necessary & in the event the currency of the medical clearance lapses then the club may remove the right to row, learn to row, train, use club equipment, coach or race.
  9. Offensive language is not acceptable at any time.
  10. Members who bring the club and/or sport into disrepute will be asked to justify their actions to the club & committee. The use of violence or abusive behaviour in or around the sport or club activities is not acceptable for any reason. Such actions may result in membership being revoked.
  11. Members coaching juniors are required to have a blue card.
  12. All members shall fill out the diary (name, boat & time) before going out rowing & sign in on return.

BOATS & OARS

  1. The club captain has the authority to decide who uses what boats and blades, he/she has the right to delegate responsibility of coaching and has full control of the booking of the boats.
  2. All the boats are to be booked for hour sessions only. Members booking boats are to be ready and back at the bank 5 mins before time or the boat will be given to another user. Bookings can only be done on a week by week basis.
  3. Rowers, coaches & non-rowing members are required to check the shed notice boards and the web site for advertised meetings, social functions, regatta sign ons and general notices.
  4. The cost of repairs for damage to boats and equipment is the responsibility of the person or persons in the boat, or handling of the boat or equipment at the time of the incident. The member or full crew in the case of a crew boat shall be responsible for the payment of a  repair levy as determined by the Committee, however not to exceed $200 (05-06) per member.
  5. Any damage through negligence or malicious use shall render the member and/or crew liable for all costs incurred in repair.
  6. All members are responsible for payment for damage to club equipment. With insured items the members pay the excess due.
  7. It is every members responsibility to note down any item needing repair in the maintenance diary, detailing time, date, incident, member concerned and item needing repair immediately following the incident & inform the club captain at the earliest opportunity.
  8. All club boats are rated according to levels of expertise required to handle the boats.  All members are classified according to their rowing experience, knowledge and responsibility. The club captain has the final say as to boat usage.
  9. Members are only able to access and use those boats rated for their level of expertise. All members have the right to use any club equipment once they have attained the required experience and knowledge and have the approval of the club captain.
  10. All boats (rowing and coaches tinnies) on the water before sunrise or after sunset must carry a fully operational flashing white light that can be seen for 360 degrees. 
  11. Only financial members may book boats.
  12. Any crew with a boat booking is required to assist in maintaining it via working bees.
  13. No boat is to be rowed without a bow ball.
TINNIES

  1. All drivers are required to hold a recreational boat licence.
  2. Ensure correct lighting is used
  3. Members must adhere to the regulations set out by the Department of Transport.
  4. Safety equipment and fuel levels must be checked before use.
  5. The club is not liable for fines incurred by coaches on the water, either for speeding or not carrying correct safety equipment.
REGATTAS

  1. Competition at regattas involves each rower being responsible for loading their boat or boats (with riggers, blades, seats, all spares and equipment) onto the trailer. It is each competitors responsibility to assist with towing of the trailer to regattas, de-rigging before, rigging at, de-rigging after, re-rigging back at the club house, loading the trailer for the return trip, unloading at the shed, cleaning down after racing, putting away and carrying out general preparations for weekly rowing back at the shed after regattas. Non attendance at loading and unloading will result in non racing.
  2. Regatta seat money for regatta entries are to be paid in advance in full on (or prior) to regatta sign on otherwise no-row!
  3. Regatta entries will not be accepted on sign on day without full payment.
  4. Competitors are responsible for all regatta costs & are required to pay a fee for boat transportation.
  5. The club is not liable for misconduct fines incurred during trailer usage.
PRIVATE BOATS & OARS
  1. All boats in the shed are stowed at the owners’ risk.
  2. Club equipment takes priority at regattas and boat loading – towing, trestles, rigging
  3. GUSPRC Boat Storage Policy is available from Club Captain.
RIVER RULES

  1. When moving on the water always keep the bow side or left hand closest to the bank.
  2. The middle of the river is a no go rowing zone for all boats.
  3. All rowers must pay particular attention to all corners, all Nerang River bridges, the Chevron Island Bridge, the red and green navigation beacons, constantly shifting sandbanks.
  4. Club boats should remain in the usual practice areas on the main river, not beyond Southport Bridge.
  5. Care must be taken at all times by rowers and crews around home beach.
  6. When departing or arriving at home beach crews must cross smartly and directly across the central no go zone of the river.
  7. When boating, all fixing up should be done as close to the bank as practical so that passing crews are not obstructed.
  8. Crews being overtaken should alert the overtaking crew by shouting and moving aside as soon as practicable to avoid collision. Stationery crews should be as close to the left hand bank as possible out of the way of passing crews.
  9. Crews on the incorrect side of the river have no rights and must give way to all traffic being as close to the bank as possible.
  10. Official competition has right of way over all traffic during designated regattas, for the length of the competition course.
  11. No member, rower, coach or club official shall use a megaphone or voice amplification equipment while talking to, coaching or directing rowers or crews on the water after 4pm or before 9am, 7 days of the week, 365 days of the year.
  12. All members and rowers shall make all efforts to respect the rights of other users of the waterways and residents on the waterfront at all times.
  13. Passing boats must always proceed on the outside of the boat being overtaken i.e. to strokeside of the boat being passed.
  14. All members shall render assistance to any other craft needing assistance on the water.
  15. All members, rowers and coaches shall make every effort to keep the waterways clean and unpolluted and where possible shall endeavour to clean up the waterway when the opportunity arises.
